We furnished one gallery room with almost nothing. What we learned about space and restraint.
The Salon at our Lisbon gallery holds six objects. A lounge chair, a stone side table, a floor lamp, a vase, a bowl and a canvas on the wall.
Visitors tend to walk the room twice. The first time they look at the objects. The second time they look at the distances between them.
It is easy to fill a room. It is harder to decide how far a lamp should stand from a chair so that the light lands on a page and not on a face. We moved the floor lamp eleven times.
Click through the markers on our home page and you will see the same six objects. The distances are the part we cannot ship.
