Atelier Sunde mixes glaze from the ash of its own studio stove. A short field report from Aarhus.
Ida Sunde burns beech and birch in the studio stove all winter. In March she sieves the ash, washes it twice and dries it on boards.
That ash goes into the glaze for Vase 04 and Pitcher 01, along with feldspar and a little clay. It melts at 1,260 degrees and runs a little, settling in thin places and building up in thick ones.
Because the ash changes with the wood, every year has its own tone. 2026 is greener than 2025. We keep a tile from each winter on the studio wall.
